In the 1999–2000 season, Rangers F.C. secured their second consecutive Scottish Premier League title under manager Dick Advocaat, finishing 21 points ahead of their nearest rivals, Celtic. A significant contributor to this success was Dutch striker Michael Mols, who joined Rangers from FC Utrecht in the summer of 1999. Mols made an immediate impact, scoring nine goals in his first nine league matches. Notably, he netted four goals in a single match against Motherwell, showcasing his exceptional talent. However, his season was marred by a severe knee injury sustained during a UEFA Champions League match against Bayern Munich in November 1999, following a collision with goalkeeper Oliver Kahn. This injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Despite Mols' absence, Rangers continued their strong form, remaining undefeated against Celtic in league encounters and clinching the Scottish Cup with a 4–0 victory over Aberdeen, marking the club's 100th major honour.
