Under manager Chris Hughton, and later Alan Pardew, the Magpies secured a respectable 12th-place finish, ensuring stability in their first season back in the top flight. One of the most exciting signings of the season was French playmaker Hatem Ben Arfa, who arrived on loan from Marseille. The talented winger made an immediate impact, scoring a stunning goal against Everton, showcasing his dribbling ability and flair. However, his season was cruelly cut short in October after suffering a horrific leg break following a challenge from Manchester City’s Nigel de Jong. Despite the setback, Newcastle made his move permanent, believing in his potential. While he played only a handful of games in 2010-11, Ben Arfa’s early performances hinted at the brilliance he would later bring to St James’ Park.
