During the 2019–20 season, Mario Mandzukic's time at Juventus came to an unceremonious end as he found himself sidelined under new manager Maurizio Sarri. The Croatian striker, who had been a key figure in previous seasons with his versatility, work rate, and big-game performances, was left out of the squad for both Serie A and the UEFA Champions League. With Sarri implementing a more possession-based system, Mandzukic struggled to find a place in the team, and by December 2019, he officially left Juventus to join Qatari side Al-Duhail.
