Karim Benzema was a young and promising talent in the 2008 France national team, but the tournament was a difficult one for Les Bleus. Coming off an impressive season with Lyon, Benzema was included in France’s squad for UEFA Euro 2008, expected to contribute to their attack alongside Thierry Henry and Franck Ribéry. However, the team struggled throughout the group stage, failing to replicate their past success. Drawn into a tough group with the Netherlands, Italy, and Romania, France managed only one point and crashed out early, finishing last in the group. Benzema, still developing as an international player, was unable to make a significant impact and faced criticism, leading to his exclusion from the squad for the 2010 World Cup. Despite the disappointment of 2008, Benzema would later establish himself as one of France’s greatest forwards, playing a key role in future tournaments.
