The Flamengo 1987-88 home jersey is one of the most quietly iconic shirts to come out of Brazilian football. Made by Adidas and worn from 1987 through 1990, it carries the Rubro-Negro's famous red-and-black stripes, the classic CRF monogram crest, three commemorative stars marking the club's then-three Brasileirão titles, and the "Lubrax" sponsor branding stamped in clean white across the chest. The collar and cuffs come in a deep red that mirrors the Adidas three stripes running down each sleeve. It's a late-eighties design that still feels timeless.

But the jersey's real weight comes from the story stitched into it.

This was the kit worn during the 1987 Copa União — one of the most chaotic and disputed seasons in Brazilian football history. With the CBF claiming it lacked funds to run the championship, the Clube dos 13 organized its own tournament featuring the country's biggest clubs. Flamengo entered without favorite status, but the squad read like a national team: Zico, Bebeto, Renato Gaúcho, Leandro, Edinho, Leonardo, Jorginho, Andrade, Zinho, and a young Aldair. Zico, managing a knee injury, was rotated throughout the campaign, but his presence shaped everything.

In the final, Flamengo drew Internacional 1-1 at Beira-Rio, then returned to a soaked Maracanã packed with more than 90,000 fans. Bebeto opened the scoring early, and Flamengo lifted the trophy. Renato Gaúcho was named the tournament's best player. Decades later, in 2026, the CBF officially recognized Flamengo as 1987 Brazilian champions, sealing the club's ninth title.
