During the 2018–19 season, Antoine Griezmann was once again Atletico Madrid’s talisman, leading the attack with his creativity, goal-scoring ability, and playmaking skills. The French forward was coming off a triumphant summer, having won the 2018 FIFA World Cup with France, and he carried that form into the new club season. Griezmann finished as Atletico’s top scorer, netting 21 goals in all competitions, including crucial strikes in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League. Despite his efforts, Atletico finished second in La Liga, trailing behind Barcelona, and suffered an early Champions League exit in the Round of 16 at the hands of Juventus. At the end of the season, Griezmann announced his decision to leave the club after five years, later joining Barcelona in a high-profile transfer. His departure marked the end of an era, as he had been the face of Diego Simeone’s attack, playing a key role in Atletico’s successes over the years.
