In the 2010-11 season, Werder Bremen signed experienced French defender Mikaël Silvestre on a free transfer after his contract with Arsenal expired. The former Manchester United and Inter Milan player was brought in to strengthen Bremen's backline, but his time at the club was largely disappointing. Silvestre struggled with form and consistency, as Werder endured a difficult campaign, finishing 13th in the Bundesliga and failing to qualify for European competition. His performances were often criticized, and he only made 25 league appearances, failing to make the expected impact. After just two seasons, Silvestre left Bremen in 2012, marking an underwhelming stint in German football.
