On BT Sport, Ferdinand said:
“Maybe their strength in depth is their only Achilles heel that I find in their team.”
“I think they are a very well balanced team. I think the manager (Antonio Conte) works hard, he drills them daily on tactics.
“They have an understanding of each other as individuals but also as a team.
“In that sense I think Chelsea are our best hope as an English team.
“A lot of the other teams you can see deficiencies in the squad.”
Chelsea kick-started their Champions League campaign with a 6-0 thrashing of Qarabag on Tuesday, the same night that Manchester United beat Basel 3-0 at Old Trafford.
A day later, Tottenham defeated Borussia Dortmund 3-1 at Wembley while Liverpool wasted the chance to beat Sevilla, being held to a 2-2 draw at Anfield, as Manchester City secured a 4-0 away victory against Feyenoord.
An English side has not been featured in the final four of the Champions League for several seasons now. Even Pep Guardiola recently said that Spanish teams are far ahead of English sides as witnessed in European competitions.
We’ll have to wait and see what happens, seeing an English side in that final rounds of the tournament would be excellent for the game.
